Our Track and Field season begins in March of each school year and is open to students in fourth through eighth grade and is directed by Coach Mohr and Coach Grant.

Track and Field season for 4th-8th grade students
Tuesday, March 18 - Thursday, June 5
Students will train for the following events:
- long-distance running: 400 meters (quarter mile), 800 meters (half mile), and 1600 meters (one mile)
- sprints: 50, 100, and 200 meters
- team relays: 4 x 400 and 4 x 100
- shot-put and softball throw
- long jump
Please note that students must attend a minimum of TWO practices a week to qualify for competitive events.
For the first two weeks of Track and Field, the team will focus on training and conditioning including four practices at the Pettit Center.
Pettit Center Practices
4 practices from 3:15 - 5 p.m.
Wednesday, 3/19; Friday, 3/21; Tuesday, 3/25 and Friday, 3/28
All runners attending practices on these days will take a yellow school bus to the Pettit.
Pick-up will be at the Pettit from 5:00 - 5:15 p.m.
Cannon Park Practices
Monday - Friday afternoons from 3:15 - 5:00 p.m.
Students will meet in the Grotto after school where attendance will be taken. Then students and coaches will walk together to the park. Pick-up will be at Cannon Park from 5:00 - 5:15 p.m.
NOTE: On the second last day of practice (Wednesday, 6/4), parents are invited to Cannon Park for an end of the season picnic.
Bradford Beach Practices
On some Fridays, we will take the runners out to Bradford Beach to run and train. We understand this may be a bit difficult because it is down at the lakefront, but it will be a great training opportunity for the team!
Friday afternoons from 3:30 – 5 p.m. on 4/11, 4/18, 5/2, 5/9, 5/16, and 5/30.
The team will take a yellow school bus to Bradford Beach. Pick-up will be at the beach between 5:00 - 5:15 p.m.

- Friday, May (TBD) Brookfield Academy Meet @ 3:00 p.m.
- Friday and Saturday in May (TBD) – Bulldog Dash Invite at Martin Luther HS
- Wednesday, May (TBD) (rain date – Thursday, May) Hershey Meet 5:00 p.m. at Pulaski HS
We will notify you as dates become available and we have more information.
Required Equipment and Uniforms:
At every practice and meet, students must have the following:
1) Quality running shoes
2) A labeled water bottle
3) Appropriate athletic clothing
Students wearing street clothing will be sent to after-school childcare.
Uniforms are required for all track meets. Students may use uniforms purchased last year.
All garments will come with the custom MMS logo that is required for intermural track meets. Full uniforms with singlet and shorts cost $38. Shorts alone are $18 and singlets are $20.

The cost for 54 practices during the 12 week season is $300.00.
Fees are due by Monday, March 17, 2014.
If your child is already contracted for 5 days of after-school childcare for the full school year, we will earmark those childcare funds for this program, and no additional payment will be necessary.
Dismissal from Practice
Please pick up your children directly from practice locations between 5:00 – 5:15 p.m. If your child needs to stay after 5:15 p.m., and is not contracted for after school child care, please complete an Occasional Care form, so our athletic faculty can direct them to Jayhawks after practice.
Sign-up for the team!
Students who have not yet participated in team sports this year are required to complete the
athletic waiver with their registration and fees.
