Over the past seven years, Milwaukee Montessori School has been building a relationship with the students and teachers of the Diatock School, in the West African country of Senegal, home to our own Oumar Sagna. In 2004, Oumar returned to his village bringing school supplies and clothing donated by MMS parents and children.
In 2005, Sagna returned with money to purchase doors and windows for the school’s new classrooms. That year, MMS French students also practiced their French writing skills by corresponding with their Senegalese peers. In 2007, the MMS community raised nearly $5,000 to purchase materials for 66 desks that have now been built for the children at the Diatock School.
This year we embark on our most ambitious effort: to help build a library for the school. Our goal is to provide the technology and resources that our own children enjoy, also enabling MMS students to communicate and work on collaborative projects with their African pen pals via Skype and video conferencing.
How to Make a Donation: We ask for your generous donations to this project, earmarking any donations to the following items in need. Please make checks payable to MMS and mail them to: 345 N. 95th Street Milwaukee, WI 53226
