The goal of Milwaukee Montessori School’s art program is to apply as many artistic mediums as possible, while encouraging our students to experiment with their own inherent abilities of artistic expression. We also introduce them to the significant artists and art movements throughout history. In this way we can familiarize our students with the influential role of art in culture, religion, politics, and our everyday, personal lives. While many schools nationwide are cutting back on art programming, MMS is offering even more sophisticated and advanced art lessons to our students. Art and technology go hand in hand as the students develop skills using software applications such as Photoshop Elements, iMovie, Ink Art 1.3, and iStop Motion creating movies, and animations while still using traditional art mediums to create artwork masterpieces. Within the academic school year, many of our students works are displayed at regional art schools where MMS students have earned best in show as well as first and second place. Our students’ pieces are also exhibited at the State Fair every summer, as well in hospitals, book stores, coffee shops, and municipal buildings throughout the city. The benefits of creative expression in drawing, painting, sculpture, and digital media are well known, and MMS students matriculate into their area high schools with advanced experience and shining accomplishments in artistic expression. It is truly an area of curriculum we can all be proud of.
