Cross Country

Our MMS Cross Country season begins at the beginning of each school year and is open to students from 4th through 8th grade.  Our students compete in over five competitive meets during the fall season in schools around the Milwaukee community.  Our team improves their skills every year with the help of two experienced coaches.

Practices

The Cross Country Team begins practice the week before classes begin, on Monday, August 25th at Cannon Park from 9:00 – 11:00am. Because students are asked to run through the park and on sidewalks, we ask that all students wear athletic attire and new, supportive footwear. When the school year begins, practices will be held Monday through Thursday afternoons from 3:15-5:00pm beginning Tuesday, September 2nd and ending Tuesday, October 14th when we will hold an end of the season picnic potluck afterwards from 5:00 – 6:00pm. 

Meets

Students will run courses over open or rough terrain, be it grass, mud, woodlands, or water. Meet distances vary from 1.5 miles to 1.9 miles. This year we will be competing in five Cross Country meets:

• Thursday, September 11th at Lake Denoon Middle School in Muskego
• Tuesday, September 16th at Rotary Park in Menomonee Falls
• Tuesday, October 7th at Rotary Park in Menomonee Falls
• Thursday, October 9th at Minooka Park in Waukesha
• Monday, October 13th at Greenfield Park in West Allis

Athletic Fee

An athletic fee of $150.00 will be assessed for the eight-week Cross Country season that includes one MMS t-shirt to be worn during practices as well as all meet fees. Athletic fees are due in the office by Thursday, August 21st. If your child is already contracted for 4 or 5 days of after-school childcare, the Business Office will allocate after-school fees toward the Cross Country athletic fee, so no additional athletic fee will be required.

Uniforms

MMS athletic uniforms, also used for track and field in the spring, are mandatory for participation in all league meets. School uniforms as well as MMS athletic shorts and t-shirts that can be worn during practices and can be ordered through the school. See the attached page for pictures and pricing.
 

Join this Year's Cross Country Team!

If you would like to sign up your son or daughter to join this year's Cross Country Team turn in the attached permission slip, sports waiver with full payment to the front desk by August 21, 2008.  If you have additional questions, please contact Coach Julie Christensen at jchristensen@milwaukee-montessori.org.  We hope to see you out on the field!
