John Gurda Visits 8th Grade Class

John Gurda Visits 8th Grade Class

On June 3rd, John Gurda visited the Milwaukee Montessori 8th Grade Class to share stories and his incredible depth of knowledge of the Milwaukee landscape. For those who might not know, John Gurda is a renowned Milwaukee Historian, whose book The Making of Milwaukee was turned into a Emmy Award winning documentary series featured on Milwaukee Public Television. He also is a lecturer, tour guide, and local history columnist for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The 8th Grade students were honored to present him with their Milwaukee Travel Poster Book. Additionally Children’s Hospital and the Children’s Court of Milwaukee requested MMS print each of the 8th Grade posters, so they can permanently display them at their respective locations.

In only it’s second year as an 8th Grade project, the Travel Poster book is becoming a project known around the city. Recall that the 8th Grade Class of 2014 presented their posters to the Mayor of Milwaukee, Tom Barrett, last year at City Hall. The project idea and leadership comes from our Art Director, Jaime Wszelaki.
