The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards
, the nation's longest running and most prestigious recognition initiative for creative teens, accepts submissions from students across the country in grades 7–12. For 93 years, the Awards, presented by the nonprofit Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, have identified the early promise of some of our nation's most accomplished visionaries and encouraged young artists and writers to pursue a variety of creative career paths and endeavors.
Despite competition from hundreds of other schools submitting thousands of entries, for the third year in a row, MMS received more awards than any other middle school in Wisconsin. Awards were given in a vast array of categories including painting, sculpture, ceramics and glass, photography, and digital art and printmaking. In total, MMS received 12 awards:
Gold Key (1st Place) = Riley H., Catherine N., Ava P.
Silver Key (2nd Place) = Aidan B., Catherine N., Calaway S., Quinn T.
Honorable Mention (3rd Place) = Grace D., Aleria J., Will M., Nevin M., Cole W.
All Silver Key and Gold Key winning pieces will have the honor of being displayed until March 13, 2016 at the Milwaukee Art Museum in the Schroeder Galleria. All winners will be given awards on February 6th in a grand celebration at the museum.
Gold Key winners will go on to compete in a national competition. We will be sure to let you know if any of our students captures a national prize!
