MMS Fund Frequently Asked Questions:
- What is the MMS Fund?
Independent schools depend on philanthropic gifts to expand and enhance the programs that are offered by their schools. Milwaukee Montessori School uses an annual giving campaign – The MMS Fund – to help expand the athletics, technology, green initiatives and fine arts programs, enhance faculty professional development opportunities, increase our needs-based tuition assistance program, and provide unrestricted income to help augment all school programming.
- When will I be contacted about the MMS Fund?
The MMS Fund kicks off shortly after the beginning of the school year with a letter and a pledge card from your Annual Fund Chair. Your pledge card will allow you and your family to discuss a gift that will be meaningful for your family. The public phase of the campaign ends after the holiday concerts and all pledge payments are due by June 30th at the close of the fiscal year.
- Why does the school ask for a contribution in addition to my tuition payment?
An independent school education is an investment and an opportunity to be fully involved in your student’s campus experience. The MMS Fund allows you to allocate your dollars towards the fund that means the most to you and your family. All donations directly make a difference in the lives of the children who attend MMS.
- How much money am I expected to give?
The size of gifts to the MMS Fund vary, but all gifts are important! We hope that each family will give according to their means and we hope that every family will find a way to help. All families, regardless of any financial assistance they may receive, will be asked to donate to the MMS Fund. Many MMS parents have stepped forward with a gift at the leadership level of $500. Each contribution makes a difference in the life of the School and the quality of the education that your child receives.
- Why is participating important?
High levels of participation clearly show School leadership and the surrounding community that parents are willing to invest in their children’s future and support the School’s mission. It signals that our community has confidence in the mission of the school and in our strategic plan. It also demonstrates to foundations that our community is strong, united, and worthy of outside support.
- Does MMS accept matching gifts from companies?
Many companies, including General Electric (GE), Northwestern Mutual, WE Energies, Harley-Davidson, and Merck & Co., Inc., have matching gift programs for their employees. Please contact the Development Office if you believe your company offers a matching gift program. We are eager to increase our annual support by participating in as many matching gift opportunities as possible.
- Are there other times that I might be asked to contribute?
Milwaukee Montessori School sponsors a wide menu of fundraising opportunities for families, including our Annual MMS Gala and Parent Association sponsored fundraisers, such as the Spaghetti Dinner and the Scholastic Book Fair.
- Can I make a pledge to the MMS Fund?
Yes! Make your pledge online. The Development Office will send you pledge payment reminders at the periods agreed upon in the pledge form. Pledge payments are due two weeks before the close of our fiscal year(June 30), to ensure processing and recognition in the Milwaukee Montessori School Annual Report.
